Music Aptitude Test: Old Swinford Hospital Boys’ School

Three places will be awarded for musical aptitude at Old Swinford Hospital school each academic year.

Boys wishing to be considered for a place based on musical aptitude are required to sit an aptitude assessment test. The test has four component parts: pitch, melody, texture and rhythm. It is a test which requires them to listen to music, to write about what they hear and reply, for example, clap out a rhythm or sing back a series of notes.

Music Aptitude Tests for Autumn 2017 Secondary School entry

Autumn is the perfect time to get a head start on preparing for next year’s Music Aptitude Tests for secondary school entry in September 2017.

The MAT is a test used by state Secondary Schools to select around 10% of their intake of students on a music scholarship program. The Music Aptitude Test (MAT) sample test materials have been created by the SE22 Piano School and music technology experts to help familiarise you with the MAT. The training tests are indicative of the style of MAT used in the UK although we cannot guarantee that your test will be exactly the same.
