A piano either works properly – consistently and reliably, at concert pitch, or it doesn’t. Even to complete grade 1, the piano must work properly. When you see pianos advertised online for free or a cheap price of £100-£200, it’s impossible to know if these pianos are suitable for a beginner pianist without having a piano tuner come and check out the instrument. Some tuners may do this for you but will charge a call-out fee. Do remember that owning an acoustic piano will incur a yearly tuning charge of around £60 plus you need to have an appropriate place in a room to position the piano. Do not place the piano against a radiator – a dealer can advise on best placement in a room.
Many dealers will have reasonably priced acoustic pianos in stock that have often been part-exchanged for more expensive purchased. UK Pianos has good selection of pianos under £1000 and you can visit them in Enfield to try them out:
