EPTA London SE Masterclass with Melvyn Cooper in Sydenham

EPTA London SE is a newly launched region of the European Piano Teachers’ Association and we were delighted that Melvyn Cooper hosted a masterclass for us at St Barts in Sydenham. Melvyn covered repertoire from Leopold Mozart to Scriabin and had insightful feedback for all pianists from beginner to advanced. Tunes to inspire young pianists – James Bond Concert Etude & Bohemian Rhapsody by Emmanuel Vass

Earlier in May this year, I was very fortunate to be introduced to up and coming young pianist Emmanuel Vass by my colleague Frances Wilson. Frances had met Manny on his tour for his CD, “From Bach to Bond“. Manny very kindly agreed to perform at the launch event for the London Piano Meetup Group and was so popular that we decided to book him to perform at the South London Concert Series in January. Unsurprisingly, the tickets are nearly sold out for his recital even though we are two months away. Manny is Classic FM’s latest featured artist which is a fantastic achievement for a recent graduate and such a young pianist.

Students age 8+ are invited to come and hear Emmanuel perform in Waterloo on the 27th January. You can book tickets here. Here are some videos of him in action to provide some inspiration! Manny has arranged various Bond themes into this stunning Concert Etude:

This version of Bohemian Rhapsody is brilliant too:

Dulwich Piano Festival 2013 at Alleyn’s School

The 2nd Annual Dulwich Piano Festival was held at Alleyn’s School in East Dulwich on Sunday 23rd of June. We had two adjudicators, Frances Wilson and Graham Fitch and around 90 pianists taking part from beginner level to advanced. We were delighted to have so many adults taking part in the festival too. New classes this year included our harpsichord class, a Concerto Class where the winner played his own composition and a jazz class. Details of trophy winners can be found below as well as a selection of photos of some of the participants. Photos are available from the photographer, James Eppy.

More photos and latest news from the festival can be found on our Facebook page.

We are already planning the 2014 Dulwich Music Festival which will include classes for Strings, Woodwind and Singing. The proposed dates for the festivals are February 8th and 9th 2014. A syllabus will be online in July.
