Summer Music Aptitude Test and Scholarship Lessons Now Available
Summer is here, and the final run towards the autumn music admissions assessments has begun.
SE22 Piano School has now released its Summer Holiday lesson dates for August. One-to-one preparation is available for children applying for music aptitude places, music scholarships and specialist school admissions for September 2027.
Many Music Aptitude Tests and auditions take place soon after the summer holidays. August is therefore an excellent time to focus on the skills your child may need.
Preparing for different school assessments
Every school uses a different assessment process.
Some schools begin with a listening test. Others include an instrumental or vocal audition. Some use both.
We support children applying to schools across South London and beyond. These include Kingsdale Foundation School, Haberdashers’ Hatcham College, Prendergast School and The Norwood School.
Not every school requires children to play an instrument. However, a musical background is always beneficial. Singing, instrumental lessons and regular musical listening can all provide a stronger foundation.
Parents should check the requirements for each chosen school carefully.
What can the lessons cover?
Depending on the school, Music Aptitude Test preparation may include:
- Pitch
- Melody
- Rhythm
- Musical texture
- Instrument recognition
- Pattern recognition
- Musical form
- Graphic scores
- Aural memory
Some schools use all these areas. Others select only a few.
Our lessons are tailored to the child and the schools being considered. We do not use the same preparation plan for every pupil.
Where an audition is required, lessons can also support instrumental or vocal performance.

It is not too late to begin.
An initial assessment can identify your child’s strengths and the areas that need more attention. We can then create a focused plan for the remaining weeks.
Preparation should not mean endless test practice. The aim is to help children listen carefully, understand the questions and approach the assessment with confidence.
