Kingsdale Foundation School offers Sports Scholarship admissions for children applying to Year 7 in September 2027.

Kingsdale Sports Scholarship assessment: what the school confirms
For the General Sports Scholarship assessment, Kingsdale states that applicants complete:
- activity tasks assessing rhythm, co-ordination and flexibility;
- coached activities and drills;
- individual and group activities;
- fitness tests;
- an online sporting-aptitude test, including leadership skills.
The coached activities and drills assess sporting potential through factors including motivation, teamwork, information processing, development within the task and application of skills.
The individual and group activities assess hand-eye co-ordination, reaction time, speed, concentration, information processing, listening skills and working within a team.
The fitness testing assesses stamina, power, agility, reaction time, flexibility and speed. Kingsdale states that the applicant’s best four scores from these six areas are used when calculating this part of the assessment.
Kingsdale’s published information also explains that the assessment is designed to focus on aptitude, rather than raw attainment or the amount of previous coaching a child has received.
Key dates for September 2027 entry
Sports Scholarship assessments begin on Saturday 19 September 2026 and take place across selected weekends until Sunday 11 October 2026.
The deadline to book a scholarship assessment online or submit the Supplementary Form is Monday 5 October 2026.
Kingsdale states that scholarship-assessment outcomes will be sent to parents on Thursday 15 October 2026.
The deadline to submit the Common Application Form to the applicant’s home local authority is Saturday 31 October 2026.

How Sports Scholarship places are awarded
After all assessments have been completed, Kingsdale ranks applicants who have reached scholarship standard.
To secure a place through the Sports Scholarship criterion, an applicant must reach the school’s full scholarship standard and be ranked within the top 15% of Kingsdale’s Year 7 admission number.
Reaching scholarship standard does not itself guarantee an offer. The final outcome also depends on the coordinated admissions process and how Kingsdale is ranked on the child’s Common Application Form. No offer is made before National Offer Day in March 2027.
Previous applicants’ feedback
The following information is not a list published by Kingsdale and should not be treated as a prediction of the 2027 assessment. It is simply feedback shared with us by families whose children attended in a previous admissions cycle.
Previous applicants described elements including:
- basketball dribbling during a warm-up;
- a multi-stage running or “bleep” test;
- a standing long jump;
- a timed agility task involving running around poles;
- a sit-and-reach flexibility test;
- a short computer-based questionnaire about health, wellbeing and competition;
- a computer-based reaction-time task.
These reports broadly fit Kingsdale’s published description of practical activities, fitness testing and an online sporting-aptitude assessment. However, individual tasks, timings and the order of activities may vary from year to year.
Practical preparation
Families do not need to chase every rumoured test component. A calmer and more sensible approach is to make sure a child arrives rested, properly hydrated, in suitable sports clothing and ready to listen carefully, work with others and respond positively to coaching.
Because Kingsdale assesses aptitude as well as existing performance, a child’s attitude during coached tasks matters. Listening, trying again, working constructively with others and responding to feedback are all part of showing sporting potential.
