For families looking for face-to-face preparation, a limited number of in-person Music Aptitude Test lessons are now available at SE22 Piano School in East Dulwich.
These sessions are suitable for students applying to schools including Kingsdale, Haberdashers’, Norwood and Prendergast.
Most Music Aptitude Test preparation is delivered online. However, these studio-based lessons give students the chance to work directly with a specialist tutor as Autumn assessments approach.
Music Aptitude Tests focus on listening skills rather than instrumental performance. Students may be asked to identify changes in:
- pitch
- rhythm
- melody
- texture
They may also complete a range of aural and memory-based exercises under timed conditions.
Working face to face allows for immediate feedback, close listening work, and targeted preparation in a calm studio setting.
Each 30-minute session may include:
- pitch and interval recognition
- rhythmic recall and clap-back exercises
- melodic comparison and memory tasks
- preparation for Round Two-style activities
Listening skills develop best through regular practice over time. However, focused in-person sessions can help strengthen accuracy, concentration, and confidence before assessment dates.
