For families seeking face-to-face preparation, a limited number of in-person Music Aptitude Test sessions are now available at SE22 Piano School
in East Dulwich. The sessions are suitable for students applying to schools including Kingsdale, Haberdashers’, Norwood and Prendergast.
Most Music Aptitude preparation is delivered online. These studio-based sessions provide an opportunity for students to work directly, in person, as Autumn scholarship assessments approach.
Music Aptitude Tests assess listening discrimination rather than performance repertoire. Students are asked to identify changes in pitch, rhythm, melody and texture, and to respond confidently in aural tasks. Working face to face allows for immediate feedback and careful refinement of listening responses in a focused studio environment.
Each session is 30 minutes in length and may include:
- Pitch and interval discrimination
- Rhythmic recall and clap-back work
- Melodic comparison and memory
- Preparation for Round Two-style responses
Although listening skills develop best through steady preparation over time, short periods of focused in-person work can help consolidate accuracy and build confidence as assessment dates draw closer.
Lessons take place at:
