Music Aptitude Places at Claremont High School
10% of the school’s new intake places are allocated to pupils who demonstrate musical aptitude.
The Music Aptitude Test is designed to assess musical potential and listening ability rather than previous musical training. Children do not need instrumental grades or music theory knowledge in order to apply.
Tests typically assess areas such as:
- pitch recognition
- rhythm
- musical memory
- dynamics and tempo
- texture and layers in music
- pattern recognition
