About our Piano School, SE22 Piano School East Dulwich, Lorraine Liyanage

SE22 Piano School students East Dulwich

We are a busy piano teaching practice based in East Dulwich, South London. We currently have over 70 piano students from ages 3 - 60. Some of our students follow the graded system, others prefer to learn pop music, classical and jazz without adhering to a graded structure.

We organise yearly concerts for our students to perform in front of friends and family at prestigious local venues such as Dulwich College and Kingsdale Foundation School. We encourage students to enter local competitive music festivals and we regularly receive excellent marks for our students. Have a look at our results page to see certificates from recent exams and festivals.

As we teach many children from local schools, we are well versed with the Scholarship procedures for various secondary schools and are happy to assist with applications and preparation for the audition. We also offer the same services for students wishing to study music at tertiary level.

About our business:

We established our teaching practice in East Dulwich in September 2007.

Lessons are on a Yamaha Grand Piano. We also offer harpsichord lessons for students with an interest in Baroque music.

We are open Mondays to Saturdays. There are six piano teachers working here, each with their own specialism. Rachel teaches Early Years and KS1, Gabrielle and Petra teach older beginners and Lorraine teaches intermediate to advanced level pianists. Stephanie is a trainee piano teacher.

In addition to the weekly lesson, we offer many extra curricular opportunities such as yearly school trips to perform on stage with The Southbank Sinfonia Orchestra and Harpsichord Masterclasses.

We always stress the importance of daily practice and honour the achievements of our most hard working students in our yearly recitals. We present certificates, medals and trophies to our students which is the highlight of our social calendar!

Our teachers and more advanced students perform recitals each term that all students are welcome to attend.

We pride ourselves on excellent communication with parents. Every week we fill in detailed notes on the practice schedule for the week. Parents receive 6 written reports each year. We also hold Parents' Evenings and provide an end of year Academic assessment to provide a plan of action for the Summer holidays and the next school year.

Exam candidates are thoroughly prepared for exam entry by participation in music competitions and mock exams that are conducted by piano teachers that are also qualified music examiners.
