What payment methods do you accept?

We accept cash payment or BACS payments. We do not accept cheques. Lessons are payable half a term in advance, or if you prefer, you can arrange a monthly standing order for payments.

Do you accept Childcare Vouchers?

No.

What is your absence policy?

We do not authorise any absences for any reason, therefore a charge will still be made as we will be left with a gap in our teaching schedule. We also do not reschedule lessons as we simply do not have any spaces within working hours to offer catch-up lessons.

The importance of regular lessons and supervised tuition from the teacher is the reason that we insist on all students attending weekly during term-time. There are about 12 weeks of holidays which allows for plenty of down-time from piano lessons. Our students and parents understand the need to attend lessons as scheduled and for this reason, we had a 98% attendance rate in 2010-2011.

Do you offer sibling discounts?

Yes we can offer sibling discounts at our studio if the lesson time exceeds an hour. We do not offer discounts for home visits. Please contact us to discuss.

Will you come to our home to teach?

Yes, Petra offers home visits for a minimum booking of an hour at a cost of £45, within a 2 mile radius of SE22. Full details are here.

Why is your full address not on the web site?

For reasons of privacy, we prefer not to put our full address on the web site. Once you enrol for your first lesson, the full address will be sent.

Why is your phone number not on the web site?

We deal with all new enquiries by email initially, then we schedule a meeting in person before the first lesson. We do not answer the phone whilst teaching and we found that most voicemails omitted important information like a contact number, so we decided to move to email communications. We are always happy to meet in prospective students and parents at our piano studio.

Do you teach adults?

Yes. About 1/5th of our students are adults. Some are beginners, some are very advanced. Most play for pleasure but some are working through the exam system and doing very well!

Do you teach children?

Yes we accept children from age 5 although we do offer lessons to younger children that show exceptional aptitude and an eagerness to play the piano. Our youngest students are 3 years old. One of our 4 year old pianists recently came 2nd at The Beckenham Festival in November 2011 which was fantastic!

Do you offer lessons on Saturdays?

Yes, Rachel and Petra teach on Saturdays.

Do you offer lessons on Sundays?

No, we are closed to weekly lessons on this day, although we run special events on Sundays. We arrange our mock exams and termly recitals on this day for our current students as it does not clash with the teaching schedule.

Can you accompany me on the piano for my exam?

Yes, Lorraine accompanies students each term at the Blackheath and Camberwell exam centres. The fee starts at our hourly rate plus travel.

Can I hire you as a pianist?

Yes, we all offer a variety of different styles of music suitable for various occasions. Contact us to discuss further.

Do I need a piano to come for lessons?

Ideally, yes. However, young children under the age of 6 can use a keyboard for the first few terms, but after the initial year of lessons, we would ask that students purchase a piano in order to be able to continue learning. A keyboard isn't a substitute for a real piano, especially as all the concerts, competitions and exams will be on a grand piano. Digital pianos are often a good stepping stone to an acoustic piano.

Can you tune our piano?

Can you recommend which piano to buy?

Yes, see here for recommended acoustic pianos. Mention that you are an SE22 Piano School student and you will receive a £50 discount.

Do you offer free piano lesson vouchers for school fairs?

Yes, we are always happy to offer these to the Parent Teacher Associations of local schools.

Can you add me to your waiting list?

We do not operate a waiting list system as we only have a few vacancies arising each term. If you join our mailing list, you will be the first to hear about vacancies. We arrange a consultation lesson for beginners before the offer of a permanent place is made.

If you are an intermediate level pianist, we may be able to fit you in sooner, so please do email us to discuss your requirements.
