ABRSM Harpsichord Exams

SE22 Piano School teachers Lorraine and Jo have a keen interest to introduce young pianists to the wonderful instrument that is the harpsichord.

We are glad to have boosted the ABRSM exam stats for harpsichord entries with our recent Summer exam candidates that passed their Grade 4 exam. Harpsichord is nearly the least entered exam according to the 2013 ABRSM exam statistics. Grade 4 is the lowest grade offered by ABRSM for exam entry. The syllabus follows the same format but with the added addition of figured bass sight-reading tests.

Over 650,000 exams are taken in 90 countries each year. Of these exams, 249,315 entries are for the piano yet only 6 of these entries are for harpsichord. Only the Jazz Baritone Saxophone ranked lower with just one entry!

For students that are interested in the harpsichord, we provide regular opportunities to explore the instrument through masterclasses, workshops and competitions such as the Broadwood Harpsichord Competition.
